Valtrex® lowers the virus burden of herpes simplex in a single dose and for long-term treatment of herpes simplex.
Valtrex® is an oral treatment for herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2) and is a prodrug of valaciclovir. It is given as a single dose of 500mg to 1-2 divided doses, followed by 500mg daily.
It is important to note that the drug may have a slightly higher dose of valaciclovir and valaciclovir combined with an antiviral agent to decrease the risk of herpes simplex infections.
